This summer, I went on short-term summer missions to Taiwan with Kristos Campus Missions to be a witness to the work of the Lord, proclaiming the Good News of the Kingdom of God (Acts 1:8). By God’s grace, I experienced Him deeply and learned to apply the gospel to all aspects of my life.
During the third week of our trip, we did campus outreach at three different universities in Taipei, aiming to meet students and invite them to the gospel night we were holding later that week. In pairs, we walked around the campuses, shared meals with different people, and immersed ourselves in the campus culture. Though we faced moments of discouragement from frequent rejection, we were also met with incredible hospitality—students invited us to tour their labs and even treated us to Taiwanese delicacies. Each evening during our team debrief, it became so evident that God had given us opportunities to reflect His love and grace. Some of us explicitly shared the gospel, while others testified to His work in our lives.
One day during outreach, I met a college student involved in a cult. He held a pamphlet about the group’s beliefs while waiting for a friend who was actively spreading their message on campus. As I watched him place his faith in the lie that “godly” humans are appointed by God to come to earth, I felt deep sorrow for the brokenness of this world. My heart cried out, God, who are these people worshiping? How could these beliefs even exist? Please calm my heart and help me love Your people. Continuing the conversation with him, my evangelism partner and I were able to slowly and clearly explain the gospel message. Trusting that God would reveal Himself in His perfect timing, we obeyed His command and joined in the work He was already doing in this student’s heart. After this interaction, we stood aside to pray for him and his friend.
We experienced spiritual warfare and witnessed it in the physical realm—while we fought to shine God’s light, others were fervently spreading the enemy’s lies. I prayed to the Lord for strength and protection over us and asked that He would quiet the confused voices in my head. During these moments of prayer, God continued to instill this message in my heart: I am the God of victory. I have already claimed victory over sin, death, and all the things you are disturbed and confused by. I am the God of victory! Yes, Lord, You are victorious! You reign above all things and have conquered sin so that I may have eternal life and the hope of heaven. Jesus died for me for this very reason.
As a result, God’s holiness was made even more evident in His greatness, perfection, and beauty. Throughout the rest of the trip, the message that our God is the God of victory comforted me and sustained me in moments when I experienced the darkness of sin on earth and within my heart. God continues to remind me that He has triumphed over sin, death, and evil to bring us eternal joy and peace with Him in heaven. Praise God for His amazing grace that saved us from sin and gave us the great gift of salvation!
